If I Pitched a Tankmen Animated Series, Here’s How I Would Do It

Posted by Peonycreme - February 23rd, 2024

I believe a Tankmen animated series will be my first pitch if I get the opportunity to pitch a show (adaptions is a great way to test my storytelling skills and Tankmen is a safe adaptation because it’s open source). So, here’s some things to expect if it goes into full fruition.

  • I will make it super obvious it is Mars because you can’t unsee it, compare Tankmen to real life photos of Mars and you’ll see exactly what I am talking about. We’ll get Mars name drops from time to time. And if I make idea one as my senior project, adapting what JohnnyUtah revealed was supposed to be 2.5 and 3 (lowkey hoping the lost media community digs up the entire thing, because I believe it’s sitting in an online private archive that is deep in the internet nobody knows exists, like where did the audio Tankmen Mambo come from? I doubt Johnny Utah will record a script for a Tankmen fan film just like that. I believe this animator has their hands on the entire audio from Tankmen 2.5, 3, and 0 and that’s just a sample they used. So, it’s somewhere, it’s just not easily accessible. Hoping one day the lost media community will find and make it more accessible one day) into a full 7-10 minute long short film. Basically piecing together what he made available publicly and “adding the missing pieces” to make a comprehensive story. And the board with Ted on the mountain, I will heavily imply he’s really on Olympus Mons, the tallest mountain in the galaxy that is on Mars. With a military pilot directly above him, which I will name Milk, he’s there so he can fly Ted down when he’s done with his mission (I don’t think Ted will be able to climb down after this). Also, you’ll see calendars indoor areas too. And it’s different from our calendars.
  • Other Tankmen will be focused on, the background Tankmen are just as much characters as our protagonists. (Well, Tankpeople, I will throw tankwomen in there too but that’s for another point) Where they are more than just background character but with personalities, names, and ambitions. (our first will be Pretzel, who will be in the same room as Ted in the infirmary who just keeps vomiting all the time, that’s why he’s in there) And some will have tankbabies strapped to their chests. (Or in slings if the tankbaby is a newborn) Also, some will have pet names like Skittles; such as Orange Juice, Milk, Pretzel, Bandit, etc.
  • We’ll see more female soldiers, not just Tankwoman, I am naming her Nancy (I think that’s her real name, fans are starting to call her that) or this expectant mother, I call her Honey. But there will be more, like there will be some in the background and being focused on. And I will have Steve befriend one of them, her name will be Claire. Also, I will add a private too, who is a female 14 year old tankling named Daiquiri, who will be trained by Ted. Daiquiri will be in her own watchtower. Skittles will develop a crush on her and will often be spying on her from his watchtower but knows they can’t date because she’s from the northern hemisphere while he’s from the southern hemisphere. (Yep, I believe the arrow-helmeted tankpeople are from the south military base) (so, a little Romeo and Juliet thing going on) There will also be a group of tankwomen who love to go and fight.
  • We’ll see the pilots, we saw them in the Friday Night Funkin’ concept art, but you have to squint to see them. The pilots will all have Steve goggles but what differentiates them from Steve is that they’ll have a military pilot insigna on their left shoulder (it’ll little wings with a diamond on top of it). The pilots will often be seen in the Martian skies or in the infirmary getting their post-travel blood, urine, and saliva tests. As they are the only tankpeople who can leave Mars and they can leave whenever they want to, but they’re tested so they’re not bringing back any diseases or illnesses that can infect the tankpeople. And one of the pilots will be inspired by the tanksona with a Hawaiian shirt in Tankmen Plus, except he’ll just have his personality. His name will be Orange Juice and he’ll be Steve and John’s chill neighbor who lives on the house on the right to them. Orange Juice often travels to other planets, mainly to the Trappist solar system (which is our neighboring solar system) because he loves the beach and that’s not on Mars.
  • The military bases will be shown in full and each base will have a program called the “Junior Soldiers Pact” where tanklings 3-12 train together to become soldiers when they turn 13. They are very young so they don’t get into physical combat, instead, they do remedial tasks like target practice with toy guns (like nerf guns), climbing, running, jogging, and exercising. Think of it as like a hybrid of PE and daycare. They also get “Junior armor” which is identical to the “standard issue power suit”, except on the north base, the tanklings don’t get a vest. The tanklings are trained by Corporal Pumpkin (one of the Friday Night Funkin’ Tankmen).
  • Families will be shown and John will shown to have a very large family and has lots of cousins who are old enough to be his children, being ages 0-10, they call him “Uncle John” because he’s 35 and they don’t see a cousin but an uncle. One of his relatives lives rather close to him and Steve, so, as a result, this cousin is part of the Junior Soldiers Pact. She is 4 years old and is named Pancake. John is sometimes seen babysitting Pancake, escorting her to be to the pact, and helping her use the bathroom. (It’s like the “bush wee” in Bluey. Except John helping Pancake squat behind a rock or a wall. He has no problem with this because he had to do it with Steve’s little sisters)
  • Skittles will also have a tankling he bonded with go to up to the watchtower a lot when she should be with the pact. She is 5 years old and is named Sticks. Sticks views Skittles as a big brother as she’s an only child. She mainly asks Skittles stupid questions about him, baby brother, and just life in general. She also likes to have lunch with him and even encourages him to “have fun”, think about Skittles and Phil except Skittles disappears for a few hours max with Sticks because Commander wants him there and Sticks’ parents will get worried if she didn’t come home. She even calls Skittles her “big brother”.
  • There will be an episode inspired by Skittles Meets Phil where Skittles first meets Sticks and they bond and after Sticks reveals she’s an only child, Skittles does too. Then the episode will end of Skittles bringing Sticks back to the Junior Soldiers Pact. And as soon as Skittles gets back to his tower, he gets calls from his father announcing that his mother is pregnant. This causes Skittles to freak out.
  • Bill’s widow is a nurse and lives across the street from John and Steve and John becomes Phil’s (Bill’s baby) godfather and his surrogate father and he often babysits Phil and is very close to Bill’s widow.
  • More of Mars will be shown and such of the animals, like, the statue next to Ted is really a species on Mars. And the fish Skittles’ dad will be fishing for will be shown and they’ll be fish with cat faces. (Yep, all the fish on Mars will have cat faces) There will also be little rock cats and dogs that can be pets for Tankpeople. We’ll also be seeing cities and towns as well. Also, given how many times Steve was shown peeing onscreen (it’s at the point where fans depict him having a weak bladder and either about to burst or just peeing in the background, I guess Steve canonically has urinary tract problems), I can conclude there will be no toilets on Mars, houses will just have in-ground litter boxes in the bathrooms and public places will have walls dividing a plot of soil and flatbed rocks, where it serves as a “public bathroom” and the flatbed rocks will serve as changing stations for tankbabies. And everywhere else, tankpeople go any place in the soil. (They’re essentially like cats, have you noticed Steve always aims for the soil? Yep, we can conclude Martian soil is full of fossilized tankpeople waste) Malls are also very extravagant and popular on Mars and can span up to 10 floors and have fun attractions such as swimming pools and indoor playgrounds.
  • I know it’s gross but I will add it anyways; Steve will have overactive bladder, chronic urinary tract infections, and be a lifelong bedwetter. I am adding it because Steve pees A LOT, he clearly has urinary tract issues. So, I am adding Steve’s problems to his character (don’t worry, it won’t be focused on too much, it will just be there, like we’ll see him peeing in the background at times or just peeing during a scene). (An example of the bedwetting, is in the night scenes, we’ll see Steve in adult diapers when he goes to bed or gets out of bed, he will wear a pink or lavender or peach or mauve or purple adult diaper and tank top. And John is incredibly patient with it) (he may even joke and tell Steve “You two have something in common.” when he asks him to change Phil or Butterscotch) (Sorry for adding that, I know it’s gross but I putting it in anyways)
  • John and Steve’s tankmate, Jack (this guy) lives in the house on the left of them, he has a wife named Apple and a tankbaby named Applesauce. Steve often babysits Applesauce for Jack and he rides in John’s tank all the time. The problem is, he’s narcoleptic and tends to fall asleep a lot. That’s why he goes unnoticed in Tankmen, he’s always sleeping in John’s tank. He’s very good friends with Steve and when he’s awake, he’s often hanging out with Steve, alone or caring for his tankbaby, Applesauce, who is always strapped to his chest.
  • We’ll finally be seeing John’s fashion sense, he’s canonically a fashionista. But we will only see it when he comes home for the night and out shopping. He will also have a huge interest in clothes and will always want to go clothes shopping. (He was over the moon when he was fathering Phil and later, Butterscotch because he enjoys putting them in adorable clothes) Due to his wealth, yep, on Mars, military higherups are practically millionaires so John has lots of money and he gets his clothes from high-end department stores such as Nordstrom and Gucci.
  • Skittles will get a baby brother named Twix.
  • John will get an adoptive newborn daughter which Steve will name Butterscotch.
  • The houses are just like this fanart. And the Martian upperclass get larger houses.
  • There will be a winter episode where Skittles’ baby brother, Twix is born. (Mars has beautiful winters, the snow is blue. So, it will be fun to the see the tankpeople in the snow)
  • We’ll see episodes where there’s holidays and festivals. (One Christmas episode where Skittles goes to his Christmas Eve service and Steve trying to get John a present that’s not his expensive clothes, meanwhile, John is trying to get Butterscotch, Phil, and his little cousins to take a picture on the mall Christmas display (there’s no Santa Claus because Mars), an autumn holiday episode where John has his large family (except his parents and maternal family because they don’t care about him) over at his house (the holiday will be called Autumn Lights, where the tankpeople eat a dinner with their friends and families then go see the light show outdoors) (and you will see how John handles these family gatherings, everyone sleeps in the living room, which is no problem because his house is very large. For the tanklings that are just potty training, John has to keep a constant eye on them because as they're potty training, they can go anywhere, they don't have the concept down that they have to use the litterplot (it's literally an in-ground litterbox) in the bathroom yet. (They get down after they are fully pottytrained) So, John has to guide his 2 year old cousins to any of the bathrooms and is hoping Steve is not in there for the 100th time. And is keeping all his tiny cousins entertained. There is even a night a scene where wakes up only to find his cousins 9 months (tankbabies mature faster than human babies)-4 years old all in his bed and he has to go put them all back in the living room. Yep, these family gatherings keep John very busy) and Steve is having a hard time because the aunt and uncle who raised John hates Steve because he wears panties and loves pink so Steve is trying to avoid them, and another festival in the spring where the tankpeople watch a fireworks show)
  • We’ll see a tankpeople wedding. (The rituals will be a little different than our weddings)
  • Commander will be grandfather and will have several tiny grandchildren, one of which is blind. He sometimes babysits them and loves his grandchildren to death.
  • It will be revealed that Mars will have an emperor and a teenage daughter. Their guards will be the “British Tankmen” Johnny Utah designed. One episode will be about John and Steve being called to escort her, and the emperor’s new son (who is a tankbaby) back to the palace. (The emperor is still trying to accept the new law change)
  • One episode will be inspired by Graveyard Shift. (Plot twist: They’re there for more than one day (a full Martian day is 30 hours, they were there all the way until the late afternoon the next day), and Steve eventually gets very dehydrated because John drank all the water (look at his stream, imagine if he went over 30 hours without anything to drink, he’ll be feeling awful the next morning). But he does eventually call a pilot, named Skye (the first female military pilot on Mars) to bring him water (that’s what the pilots do besides patrolling the skies, doing aerial attacks, grabbing things for the tankpeople from other planets, escorting tankpeople around Mars, and going on interplanetary vacations). While she’s in disbelief that John drank all the water, she does bring John a burrito because he didn’t eat anything) (the whole story is John and Steve are called on the graveyard shift and this is John’s first graveyard shift with tankbabies, so, John has to not only pack for himself and Steve but two tankbabies. They all go but the problem is, Steve gets bored and vandalizes the castle crashers’ grave and eventually makes the soil his personal litterbox (which he went 12 times that day) then gets dehydrated and John fights boredom and he drank all the water because he is bored. All the fun is keeping Phil and Butterscotch entertained, which Butterscotch mainly just sits and lays next her father because she’s a few months old and Phil just walks everywhere. John is even trying to keep Phil from to the soil Steve peed at several times (and even took a dump in, spoiler alert: he sings “One Man Went to Mow” during this deed and got to 14. (I am inspired by Bluey because I can see Steve doing this whenever he takes a dump). So, through the duration of the episode, John either nursing Butterscotch and Phil, or drinking all the water he packed, or smoking incense, or chasing Phil (making Steve watch Butterscotch), he eventually has to pee too because that’s from drinking so much (and even vomited due to being water logged), playing with Phil and Butterscotch, even changing diapers at one point, as well reading books to Phil and Butterscotch. But it only takes him so far because by the time the sun sets and it’s dinner time, Steve is very thirsty and there’s no water left, so he has to go thirsty, then at bedtime, it’s worse but Steve is able to sleep. The next morning, Steve vomits up his breakfast and feels dizzy, he’s mad at John for drinking all the water and rightfully so, he even drinks some of the bottles of milk out of desperation. But only stops when John nonchalantly says “That’s my milk. It’s for Butterscotch and Phil.” Steve cries (with no tears) and says “If you were going to drink all the water like the sun, you could’ve packed more.” John says “You know I drink when I get bored.” Steve says “Well, you ate nothing, aren’t you hungry?” John just says “No.” Steve caves in calls the pilots, despite John telling him not to. Thankfully, Skye flies in and brings a case of water and burrito for John. Skye says “Captain, what is wrong with you?! Drying out your best friend? He needs water, probably more than us, look at how wet the ground is compared to your’s. If it were me, you could’ve offered Steve water, and maybe next time, bring things you like.” Steve thanks Skye as she hops back in her plane and flies back to the base. Steve drinks four water bottles and it’s time to go back, Steve is still mad at John and the episode ends with them discussing what they should bring for the next graveyard shift so they can both be happy and healthy)
  • The next season will show Ted and Tankwoman having baby twins named Bee and Muffin.
  • One episode will have a subplot revolving around Honey giving birth.
  • We’ll also see more of tankpeople biology, and I know this is weird but remember, they’re aliens so it’s okay. Like bats, both genders can lactate and nurse their young so we’ll see Tankmen nursing their tankbabies. Like, we’ll see John nursing Butterscotch and Phil from time to time and Skittles nursing Twix even though his parents don’t want him to.
  • Steve will eventually be revealed to have some family alive, his aunt, uncle, and baby cousin, they eventually start to visit him a lot.
  • Baby Marshmallow and Soldier Cracker will be characters. (Will credit the artist) They will be John’s “pee buddies” because John likes to go where it’s heavily used.
  • A tankdad and tankbaby named Jack and Applesauce will be characters too, Steve babysits occasionally babysits Applesauce.
  • A whole episode will revolve around Jeremy, Paranoid Sniper having a hard time accepting the fact that he’s becoming an uncle. (His brother is having a tankbaby) But he does prove himself to be a good uncle.
  • Skittles will have an uncle that he’s very close to and part of the military. He has looked after Skittles since he was a tankbaby and the original private. His name will be Uncle Gerry and he often pops in to check on Skittles and Twix. A whole episode will be about Skittles yelling at his Uncle Gerry and saying nasty things to him (he’s a teenager and wanted to be left alone), he comes to regret what he said and goes to apologize to him.
  • John will also be knitting and sewing at times.

Hey @JohnnyUtah I think you gotta hire this guy, I dont think your series will ever look this good without him

First, it’s “she”. And second, I am happy you love my ideas, however, I did get a chance to talk to Mr. Utah, let’s say, he ain’t interested in me finishing the original series. But Tankmen is now open source as you know, so, that means you can legally adapt it as you please. And seeing adapting the internet has become popular again, I would love to see the Tankmen adapted into a full-fledged series, it’s something that has a sizable fanbase and unlike all the internet videos I have seen, it has the most potential. Unfortunately, I don’t anyone would pick the series up due to its moderate popularity. But I can adapt it and make it known once I get the opportunity to pitch a show, and I will likely pitch it when that day comes.

Also, a little fact that’s slightly unrelated, I kinda started using Bluey screenshots as reference for my Tankmen art. (I am no Bluey fan and have no interest in the show but screenshots alone provide great references for tankpeople due to their cuteness and versatility)

@phantomnoiz @Peonycreme It’s not “open source”…We own the characters but you are welcome to make parodies and fan episodes as long as you do not profit off them. You are not allowed to pitch it, I hope that’s clear.

Friday Night Funkin’ also owns their characters and do not confuse the code being open source with being able to own the characters and do as you see fit.

Hello, Mr. Utah, thanks for the clarification! I have been searching everywhere this answer. (Looks like everyone on Reddit was right, they just weren’t clear enough) I just thought they were open source because professional artists asked you if they can use your tankpeople in their works and you okayed them and Newgrounds terms and uses do not say anything about the tankpeople. But happy to hear from you!

And thank you, I can make a Tankmen series since you said it’s okay, it will just be on YouTube and Newgrounds. (Which is also good because apparently, YouTube has been a new and upcoming platform for independence series. And I am hoping one day if I get hired at a small studio that specializes in webseries (I am currently interning at one, Mad Henhouse Studios, my boss is a huge fan of Newgrounds)) Also, it looks like I can also put my Tankmen art in my professional portfolio too.

Anyway, Mr. Utah, thanks again for clearing this up and answering my question I can’t find the answer for, I have to say this to you, I am a big fan of Tankmen. I love Tankmen and your work, they’re just adorable little marshmallows and your concept is genius!! I would love for Tankmen to be adapted into an animated series one day instead of the slog that is YouTube Kids or just those mind numbing viral videos that have absolutely no substance for a series! (Lucas the Spider IS A SPIDER, he does not belong on streaming) But this adaption will be made out of love, while I understand I can’t pitch it. I will still adapt it into a full series for YouTube and Newgrounds. However, given how hungry our media is for unoriginality, it could happen, but it’s like finding a kyawthuite, the chances are very slim. But out of respect for the copyright hold, it will be a YouTube or Newgrounds only series (if I get hired at a small studio that specializes in internet content). Thanks again for responding, Mr. Utah and that’s what I’ll do in the future!

I’d watch it

Thank you, Happy you'll watch it!

And you saw what Mr. Utah said, I can’t pitch animated Tankmen series for paid streaming. But I can make an animated Tankmen series for free viewing like YouTube, here on Newgrounds, and maybe even free streaming services like Tubi or Freevee or Twitch, they’re practically nonprofit so they count (I wonder if Vimeo and Google Play count too?). (But finding one that will take it is kinda hard) But I will make it if I get hired into a studio that specializes in web content (which is apparently all small animation studios, they either put their content on streaming or YouTube or anywhere else on the internet). And I will likely make the pilot as my senior project for this online-exclusive series! Of course, it will be an adaptation out of love and respect for the series! So, with what Mr. Utah said, it will be free for all to view once I make it!

Also, don't worry, Johnny Utah, when I make this series (again, for free viewing), I'll credit you and Newgrounds because adaptations always credit the original where credit's due. And this series adaptation will be made out of love and respect for the original source material as I am a fan after all!
